The Doctoral Thesis (Dissertation)
The formal principles and Requirements for the Thesis (see also FAQs) are determined by the Doctoral Regulations/Promotionsordnungen (PromO) and in consultation with your supervisor/first reviewer.
With your signature on the “Application for the opening of the doctoral procedure / Antrag auf Eröffnung des Promotionsverfahrens” (page 2) you agree in “Erklärung zur Dissertation” the Ensuring good scientific practice (in German).

Design of Cover Page and Title Page:
You can find the current template for Title Page (in German) of your dissertation (including information on the Cover Page) in accordance with the RPromO here under “Opening of the doctoral procedure” for the non published version (Proofreader’s version) and under “Publication (completion)” for the published version (Publication version).

Proofreader’s version/Korrektorenversion:
Print copy of your uploaded proofreader’s version, see Submission (Upload) / opening of the doctoral procedure:
Submit 1 x copy in print version, double-sided with adhesive binding (no ring binding) according to the information on the doctoral procedure to the doctoral office;
If necessary, additional printed copies in direct consultation with reviewers.
Publication version/Veröffentlichungsfassung:

Special features of Essay-based dissertations:
The formal bases are determined by the Doctoral Regulations/Promotionsordnungen (PromO) and in consultation with your reviewer.
Documents such as “Declaration of Co-Authors/Erklärung der Co-Autoren (CO, in German)” and “Blocking Notice/Sperrvermerk (in German)” as well as further information can be found here and in the FAQs-Doctoral Thesis (Dissertation).
1. at least three articles must be submitted.
2. at least two of the articles should have the potential to be published in a high-ranking peer-reviewed journal, preferably at an international level. The assessment is made by the reviewers.
3. at least one article must be written by a single author.
4. article-based papers can only be published electronically (option 1).
5 The distinction between cumulative and article-based dissertations is purely legal. If you submit a dissertation with at least two published papers, it is legally a cumulative dissertation, otherwise it is article-based. Operationally, however, this has no effect, as both types are processed in the same way regardless of the entry in DocDaten.
